A Citizens Advice report states that people with interest only mortgages are facing financial difficulties as they have nothing in place to repay the capital element of the mortgage at the end of the term. An interest only mortgage means the borrower only pays the interest accruing on the mortgage and in a time of low rates the repayments are very low. However at the end of the term, usually 25 years, the capital still has to be repaid and if there is nothing to do this with the house may be sold or repossessed. If you are one of these people you should contact your mortgage lender as soon as possible to explore the options available to you

On Monday 18th May 2015 nine Tameside based agencies joined forces to make the borough a Loan Shark free zone providing a Zero Tolerance policy. To loan money a person or organisation needs permission from the FCA which makes them legal, but some people operate outside the law illegally offering cash loans without any agreement or repayment book, meaning you don’t know how much you’ve paid or how much you owe. The Shark has a hold over you which can result in you being forced to do things you would never normally do like steal, pimp or sell drugs. If you are currently paying a Loan Shark or know of one operating in your area shop them as soon as possible. Report them confidentially on 0300 555 2222 or text loan(space)shark(space) + your message to 60003
